United's U21 winning performance against Spurs U21

Manchester United U21 yesterday kicked off their home campaign against Tottenham Hotspurs U21. The home team won the game with a 2-1 scoreline. Federico Macheda scored the first goal inside two minutes thanks to Ryan Tuncliffe who had won the ball at midfield and, when his shot was blocked by Jordan Archer, it rebounded back off the Italian and deflected into the net. Manchester United had gone 2 up on the 50th minute with another goal thanks to a Macheda penalty.

The match also been the debut match for new Manchester United left-back signing Alexander Buttner signed from Vitesse only last week. Nick Powell had a good game and at one stage was banging on the door of the Tottenham goal but his shot was blocked. He looks quite impressive and providing he can keep his consistency, he could find himself in the first team within the next few seasons.

Manchester United would feel quiet relieved to hear Darren Fletcher had gotten another 90 minutes of football under his belt during the match. It must be difficult for him coming to terms with the bowel condition and this was the third match he has played in the past few weeks. This certainly plants a few thoughts whether he is coming back soon, most probably there are right. To be honest, Fletch would certainly look a new signing for us. He would really bolster the midfield as we have had problems there for the past few seasons.

Tottenham were also given a penalty on the 80th minute when Scott Wootton made a challenge which was definitely a penalty. Ryan Mason drilled home the spot kick to give Tottenham some hope for the remaining 10 minutes of the match. Andres Lindegaard would certainly be man of the match having made a double save in the first half of the match. He showed why he is pushing for the number 1 shirt this season with some great acrobatics which effectively 1 kept Tottenham out of the match for most of the game.

Warren Joyce's team made it two wins in two matches for the U21 and their next match is against Newcastle at Moss Lane, last season the Magpies were beaten 6-3.

Manchester United: Lindegaard; Wootton, Evans, Keane, Buttner, Fletcher, Tunnicliffe, Powell; King (Thorpe 85), Macheda (Cole 65); Brady (Lingard 60). Subs not used: Sutherland, Veseli.
